Aerococcus е род на бактерии кој припаѓа на коленото Firmicutes.[1] Овој род беше првпат идентификуван во 1953 година во примероци од воздух и прашина. Беше утврдено дека станува збор за Грам-позитивни, каталаза-негативни коки кои растат во мали кластери.[2] Подоцна, припадници на овој род беа идентификувани и во други средини.[3] Тие тешко се идентификуваат, бидејќи наликуваат на алфа-хемолитични стрептококи на крвен агар, а тешко се идентификуваат и со биохемиски методи.[4] Секвенционирањето на 16S рРНК стана златен стандард за идентификација, но и други техники, како што е MALDI-TOF, се покажаа како корисни за идентификување на родот и неговите видови.
