Алберт Карл Лудвиг Готхилф Гинтер (германски: Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther;[1] 3 октомври 1830 – 1 февруари 1914) бил германско-британски зоолог, ихтиолог и херпетолог. Важи за вториот најобемен систематичар на влекачите (веднаш зад Ж.А. Буланже), со над 340 опишани вида.[2][3]

Младост

Гинтер е роден во Еслинген, Швабија (Виртемберг). Татко му бил чиновник во родниот град. Ја постувал Штутгартската гимназија. Родителите сакале да стане лутерански свештеник, па затоа се префрлил на Тибигенскиот универзитет. Брат му се откажал од теологијата и почнал да студира медицина, па така и Гинтер решил да се определи за истата наука, префрлајќи се на Медицинскиот факултет во Тибинген во 1852 г. Неговото прво пишано дело гласи (Ueber den Puppenzustand eines Distoma). Во 1858 г. дипломирал со магистратура, и истата година објавил прирачник за студенти по медицина. Мајка му се преселила во Англија, и при една посета во 1855 г, Гинтер се запознал со природонаучниците Џон Едвард Греј и Ричард Овен во Британскиот музеј. Истата година тие му понудиле работно место во музејот, каде, како прва задача, требал да класификуца 2000 примероци на змии. По смртта на Греј во 1875, Гинтер бил назначен за Раководител на зоолошкото одделение во Природонаучниот музеј, и на таа функција се задржал до 1895 г. За главно негово дело се смета осумтомниот „Каталог на риби“ (Catalogue of Fishes, 1859–1870). Работел и на влекачите и водоземците во музејската збирка. Во 1864 г. го основал стручното списание Record of Zoological Literature и шест години бил негов уредник.[4]

Кралско друштво

Во 1867 г. Гинтер станал член на Кралското друштво и служел на функцијата потпретседател во 1875–6 г. Бил член на советот на Зоолошкото друштво речиси четири децении (1868–1905). Во 1877 г. бил примен во Линеево друштво и служел како негов претседател од 1896 до 1900 г. Починал 1914 г. во Кралските ботанички градини во Кју (тогаш во Сари).[4][5]
